THE EDUCATION:

The Royal Danish Academy's programme of Crafts in Glass and Ceramic is a specialized education that delves into some of the oldest known forms of craft, with respect for both its rich traditions and experimental approaches.

The school, situated on the beautiful island of Bornholm in the middle of the Baltic Sea, emphasizes the connection between the crafts and the natural resources that surround it. The nature of Bornholm provides the perfect environment for students to explore and experiment with new and innovative techniques, pushing the boundaries of traditional craftspersonship.

This program not only teaches students the technical aspects of glass and ceramic making, but also encourages them to challenge the traditional ways of working with these materials. Through contemporary and critical approaches, students learn to create unique and thought-provoking pieces that challenge norms and expectations. The students are encouraged to be creative, bold and daring, and to use their skills to express their ideas in personal and exciting ways. Extracted from the soil and the sea, natural resources are formed and shaped by hand and melted or burned into new artistic and/or functional objects. Meditative processes connect mind, heart and hands, shaping both inner and outer universes and carving new paths for future exploration.

“The Professional Bachelor of Crafts in Glass and Ceramics has a specific artistic and entrepreneurial profile. This allows students to explore the idea of starting their own business — or to become a key employee in a company. “
